A night at Mount Brown Hut, Lake Kaniere, West Coast New Zealand
A typical NZ overnight hike in summer (December 2020) to the striking Mount Brown Hut.
We often get asked what we pack for multi-day hikes, which kinds of food we eat or how the inside of the huts look like. Hopefully this video gives an idea of what goes on behind the scenes :)

Abel Tasman Coastal Track - New Zealand Great Walk

The full Abel Tasman Coast Track is 60km one-way. As NZ’s smallest national park, the Abel Tasman packs a punch with its golden beaches, turquoise bays and coastal bush. There are several tide crossings along the way, so check the tide timetables before going. The Awaroa Inlet is passable only near low tide, while Torrent Bay and Bark Bay have all-tide tracks around them. Because of this, we st...

Epic Things to Do in South Island, New Zealand
They are taonga, unique, special, treasured!, and it is our duty as kiwis to protect their environment and do everything we can to help their numbers grow and get them off the endangered species list.
👍🏻
Beautifully shot footage. And nice music to match. Have climbed once but didn't quite summit from Tahurangi Lodge route. Looks good from Symes.
Well done you make it look easy.
are you using the insta360 x3 for all the footage in this video? cool vid, i like seeing what it's like to snowboard in other countries. the weirdest/coolest difference is how your trails aren't really trails. it's like you can go anywhere and make your own path down the mountain because you have no trees! in the USA we have trees all over.
Such great videos
Very good video. I liked it
Thanks for your feedback!
Great ! Super ! How many hours to run the whole walk pls ,
We took about 8 hours in total (for context, we generally take half the recommended duration). Hope this helps.
Cant Wait to Go There
Keep it up po sa iba niyo pa pong content godbless
Thank you OG Ngal!
These are neat, I like their coloring. Never knew there were dolphins that only got that big. I'm sure they are as social and exploring as other breeds. Swimming and being around them would be relaxing.
Like porpoises smallest dolphins
Nice we ❤️ Seals and we ❤️ NZ🇳🇿
So do we!
Thanks for showing what snowboarding in Cadrona and TC is like from a Sgrean's perspective. :)
Glad you liked it, Isaac!
@@LadyExplorer Yeah, it helped make up my mind to head there for snowboarding. Heading there in about a week. :)
Nice video!! What do you use to record yourselves walking? Is it go pro (and what stick)?
Thanks S J! We use insta360, which typically comes with a stick.
Oh wow 😳 nice one But how did you create that animat vat beginning ???
Thanks! We use Google Earth Studio. It's free - check it out!
I love how you guys are smiling throughout your run! Great stuff guys 😊. I'm going to do this on Friday 😊
Thanks! The plan was to smile the pain away 😅 Hope you had a good trip!
Wow! 1) How do you guys carry all the clothes, hiking and camera gear and hike? 2) How do y’all go keto doing trekking and all! 👏
1) We carried a 40L backpack each :) 2) Cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, broccoli, tuna, almonds, peanut butter, chocolate (90-100%), coffee (black without sugar), chia seeds, cream, avos
@@LadyExplorer NOICE! How about doing a video on what you guys generally pack on a trek! Hahas we are trekking enthusiasts but it’s so challenging having to manage both camera gear, the clothes we pack, the food we bring along and miscellaneous trekking stuff hahas. As is, I always wonder how to enjoy, be in the moment where we are and document the journey! 😂
@@SCHWARZENEGGERCHIA wow you read our minds! here's our latest video, fresh from the oven, for a glimpse of what we pack/eat and also how the inside of the huts look like: ruclips.net/video/JgrddIWVqEk/видео.html
Cool vid guys. Thanks
Got my first pair of Altra (escalante 2.5) not long ago. For a girl with broader feet than most, Altra's wide toebox allowed my toes to spread out comfortably when I land on the ground. It definitely takes a while to get used to running in them if you have been a heel striker for years, but learning of the stress it causes your knees made me realise the slight discomfort at the start is worth pulling through. Thank you Altra for making shoes that helps me run more naturally, in turn allowing me to go on for many years to come.
Excitingly waiting for my first pair of altras to arrive!
Time to unlock the potential in those calves and hams 🔥🔥 Would love to hear how about your experience in them :)
Nice video I love my altra shoes
So do we! 😍
I liked that! Good job. Thanks
Thank you the kind words, Mark
Worst fucking form Ive ever seen. Im 100% certain my grandmother could do better. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Just hideous, dont post garbage like this.
Did you stay at the hut or water taxi there each day?
Hi there! Neither. We covered the entire route in a single day :)
@@LadyExplorer Wow! The whole Great Walk? We did a little lake close to Waikaremoana and stayed at the hut. We were thinking of staying at the Holiday Park and taking the water taxi to do sections.
Are you using Relive app for map shots?
They were created with Google Earth maps!
come carving with a master carver in chch next rip
Would love to, we missed out on a Mt Hutt trip this year with the lockdown :(
Nice work team. I must get my fam to try as well x
Thanks for your support Peter! Good idea for the girls to start young ;)
nice video, did you do this during summer?
Thanks EM NZ! Yes we did. Otherwise it'd be pretty dangerous in winter.

Lovely. This is one I really want to do. But you may want to change 'Fantail Falls' to 'Dawson Falls'.

Thank you Zane :)
Wow this is a great video.
Thanks Koshy, glad you enjoyed it :)
So cool. Thanks for posting
Good on you guys. Feel cool to see our Malaysian fellows did the same race.. I did this race in 2018.
Hello Eddie! Are you based in NZ too? Hehe I'm not from Malaysia (Singaporean here :p) although Keith is from Penang! Sama sama...
Absolutely hilarious your intro scene 😂👌! Very informative video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Finn! Glad you enjoyed it. We had a lot of fun shooting and editing this one :D
Good video! Well done!
Thanks, the stunning Mount Taranaki definitely helped :)
Thanks for this, great to hear your input on the difficult patches you went through and managing chunks... Big positive vibes from you too! Congratulations!!
Thanks for the kind words :)
@@LadyExplorer Oh yes, I'm VERY interested.... your pre-event dinner and trail food didn't have any carbs. Do you follow a carb-free plan? I'm focusing on low carb but not sure what to do pre-race. Or during the race... Can't seem to find any "trail runner specific" info on it either. Any ideas?? Thanks!
Hi @@Fergusayo yes you're right, we are currently on a LCHF (low carb high/healthy fat) diet and we don't have carbs, except from vegs/nuts/seeds. A pre-race meal would be a hearty lamb steak cooked in generous portions of butter and kale/spinach the night before, plus some eggs for breakfast. Our go-do fuel during training runs are: peanut butter, soaked chia seeds/flax seeds and "keto-rade" which is basically Himalayan pink salt dissolved in water squeezed with some lemon. Sometimes we bring a mandarin orange or two. During races, however, we do indulge with some bananas and electrolyte water which helps give a boost when we really need it out on the trails. Before we changed our diet, we were heavy carb eaters and would load up on heaps of sugary gels during our runs. So it did take a while to adjust and the journey wasn't an easy one, but I documented my personal experience here if you are keen to find out more: ladyexplorer.com/2020/01/18/rediscovering-nutrition-running-life/ Good luck!
@@Fergusayo thanks again for your detailed response, I also read your article. Need to get my head round the v low carb thing. Just seems totally foreign to me and ive not seen any nutrition articles on it regarding endurance. I’ll keep searching! Post us your next big epic adventure. We are so lucky to be able to do these in NZ at present. Just did the Shotover moonlight event last week... and 48 hours before the start we thought we’d still be in lockdown!
Also how long it took you to reach from mintaro hut to Mackinnon pass? And what time you reached on day to at Mintaro hut. Am going to Milford next week and really exited.
We arrived at Mintaro Hut just before noon and from Mintaro Hut to Mackinnon Pass, it's about 5.60km at an elevation of 577m (based on my GPS watch data). It took us about 1.5hr to reach Mackinnon Pass, but we ran up without our heavy packs as we left them in the hut. Also the duration varies greatly between individuals so I guess you'll have to assess how you feel when you're on the track. Good luck! :)
One more last question.. What time you normally start your trip every day?
@@sambrown7079 No worries :) I'd say we usually leave the hut about 7am ish? Have a lovely hike and stay safe!
Good decision going to see the view a day ahead coz of the weather. What camer you used? Or is it a drowne
Hey Sam, this was shot on a combination of the Sony Alpha A6300, insta360 and iPhone 7. Drones are strictly prohibited on the Milford Track now (and the other Great Walks/NZ National Parks too I believe)
Thanks a lot for your valuable information.😊
I love this city , can anyone send me an invitation to come 🏃😭😭
What camera was this shot with?
Hi John, this was shot on a combination of the Sony Alpha A6300, insta360 and iPhone 7 :)
